Description

PLANT:

Boldo, Peumus boldus, also popularly known as boldú, is a tree native to Chile. It belongs to the botanical family Monimiaceae and grows between 2 and 3 metres tall. Boldo leaves are oval, and its flowers, which grow in clusters, are small and white.

COMPOSITION:

Boldo is rich in essential oils such as cineole, eucalyptol and ascaridole. It also contains an alkaloid, boldine, which acts as a liver and biliary stimulant and is also diuretic. It is also rich in flavonoids and tannins: flavonoids help protect heart health, while tannins act as antioxidants.

COSMETIC PROPERTIES AND USES:

Boldo has digestive, antioxidant, carminative, purifying, sedative, diuretic and anti-inflammatory actions, among others. The main contraindications include pregnancy and breastfeeding, children, bile duct obstruction, liver disease, gallstones, liver disease and treatment with anticoagulant medicines.
